Interview with Mr. Saib
1.      What is the driving force behind the fair?

The Hartley Fair is a fundraising project wherein all stakeholders are involved. It had been initiated in 2000. This is currently our 17th fair. As you know, Hartley Road Primary is a government school. The fair serves as a way for us to raise funds in order to improve the facilities and quality of education in our school.

2.      When and where will the fair be held?

The fair is on the 30th of April, 1st and 2nd of May 2016 at the Hartely Road school grounds, 133 Hartley Road.

3.      Tell us more about the fair and what patrons and visitors to the fair can expect...

The fair is a phenomenal and exciting event. It attracts patrons and exhibitors from all over the country and even internationally. Apart from it being a shoppers’ paradise, it also serves as a platform for up coming entrepreneurs to showcase what they have to offer.
Shoppers can look forward to an array of local and international goodies from designer abhayas and scarves to fashionable clothing, shoes and handbags. You can get your hands on the latest high street fashion all in the same place. And for the food connoisseur there’s something to tantalize every tastebud from tacos, churros, waffles, doughnuts, Bombay crush and other tasty treats. With Ramadan around the corner, you can shop for savouries, chutneys, dips, cloaks,  kurtas and even get your eid gifts sorted out.

After all that shopping, come and relax at our fantasy tea garden and enjoy exquisite confectionery and mouthwatering delights. Bring your kids along to the kiddietainment area where they can enjoy rides on the dodgems, swings or train... and for the more daring and older ones, the gyro is just for you. We have exciting and side splitting live entertainment lined up with the likes of comedians Simmi Areef, Zaheer Bassa and Yusuf Kadoo. Serenading us through the evening are nasheed artists Waleed Bata, Suhail Patel and Soutul Imaan. You can also look forward to soccer tricksters, clown and fire shows, interactive kids programmes and self defence lessons. And for the ladies, glam up your look with make up and hijab demos.

Secure parking will be available at Ridge Park College  and on Hopelands Road.
The cherry on top... wait for it... entrance is absolutely free!!!
4.      Looking back at your first fundraising fair, how far have you come?

The journey has been amazing and more than anything, rewarding. We have done remarkable things in improving our school. We have built 3 astro turfs, put jogging/cycling track on the grounds, built a state of the art jungle gym, installed airconditioning in the classrooms and renovated the bathrooms. My vision for this school is to deliver quality education at a nominal fee. Create employment. Make Hartley the centre of community life in Overport.

5.      Any last words for our listeners?

Diarise the dates 30th April/ 1st and 2nd May 2016. It’s where you have to be! A weekend of shopping bliss and sheer entertainment.
